Connecting (v) bringing together.

Potential (n) the capacity to develop or become.

amongst us — between us — within us

Influence anything, you influence everything.

The work

I make the complex simpler and the challenging more ‘ease-full,’ while building energy through meaningful action and results

Having worked in organizations for most of my career, I bring deep insight and appreciation for what it takes to influence change—for real—while working within a team or a culture, and the energy and discipline it takes to see it through.

Hi, I'm Pam August

(yes, that's August like the month)

Facilitator, designer, coach, co-creator, and learner. I am so glad that you have found your way here, and are exploring Connecting Potential and how I may help you, your team, your organization, your community, build its capacity and achieve its potential.

I believe we all have the need to connect potential amongst us – in our organizations and communities; between us – our teams, colleagues, and leaders; within us – each of us

I get it; it’s simple and not easy — simple to say, not easy to do. Life is tough, change is hard, and the work of connecting potential is often, if not always met with challenges and obstacles.

I have a passion and a knack for bringing that potential out — working it through and making it real with others, especially when things get tough.

While, I don’t take myself too seriously (that never goes well!) — I have built a serious foundation of expertise that informs the work, including a Bachelor of Adult Education and a Master of Arts in Leadership. My unique approach and diverse practices are also informed by my learning as an Organization and Relationships Systems Coach (ORSC™), a Brain-Based Leadership Coach (NeuroLeadership Institute), a Brain Gym® instructor, a OneSmartWorld (OSW) facilitator, and a yoga teacher.

If you know there is the potential for more — and aren't quite sure how to connect it, let's connect.

What makes me glad

Really tricky problems – the ones that ‘best practices’ can’t seem to solve because human systems are complex and unpredictable

Listening deeply – to what is being said and what wants to be heard

Getting s____ done – a lot of meaningful stuff (what did you think the “s” was for?)

Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable – because that’s where real learning happens

Creating spaces – where others feel safe to be real and know that they matter

Making meaning through challenge and chaos – and moving forward together

Energy and dynamism – physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual – anything that moves me or others

Learning always – and in all ways

Being a work in progress – it really takes the pressure off

Laughing – a lot

“Culture and Engagement are two very key components of having a long term successful organization. MHG prides itself on these two ideals and it takes work, it does not just happen. We have been fortunate to have engaged Pam August as what I call our cultural guardian. Over the past 6 years she has deepened our understanding and commitment to making our organization the best it can be. She is passionate, knowledgeable and deeply dedicated to her clients. Bottom line is if you want to make your organization better, hire Pam and you will not be disappointed. She continues to make Murphy Hospitality Group a leader within the Hospitality Industry in Canada.”

In the works…

My first e-book in the ‘simple and made easy(r)’ series – Culture Change Made Easy(r).

How do I influence culture in my team and organization? For real?

Earlier this year, Covid-19 pressed control-alt-delete on the way we live and work. Almost overnight, it unfroze us from our long-established patterns of doing and being .

Several months later we are still in it, still uncertain, still adapting, still attempting to navigate the ‘new normal’ (although there is nothing normal about the time we find ourselves in). 2020 is THE year of “remember when” one that is incredibly ‘sticky’ for everyone.

The words and actions leaders take now, during a time of mass uncertainty, will have a significant and lasting impact. Simply put, if you ever wanted culture change within your organization, there has never been a better time, because it is already happening.

The question is, do you want it to be by default, or by intention and design?

It’s easy to become overwhelmed and frustrated when attempting to influence and lead culture change. While the word “culture” is used a lot in organization life, it often feels too big, too nebulous, too complex to really take on with any meaningful action. And there’s no spritz bottle or app that’s magically going to change it overnight.

The reality is that culture change is “simple and not easy” – simple to say and not easy to do.

I am so excited to be creating my first e-book in the “Simple and made easy(r)” series – Culture Change Made Easy(r). This e-book offers a set of insights and actions learned from years of being in, and working on, organizational cultures that are simple to understand and easy(r) to activate.
